Bereaved Tallaght father raises funds for charity

A father from Tallaght is nearing the end of a gruelling 690km walk dedicated to the memory of his young daughter and raising much needed funds for two very worthy causes.

Tom Kelly from Aylesbury began walking from Malin Head in Donegal on July 18th destined for Mizen Head in Cork, where he is due to finish up on August 2nd.

His youngest daughter Leah sadly passed away at just 7 years old in August 2013 after bravely battling with a form of cancer known as ependymoma.

Devastated Tom and his wife, Rachel, described the trauma as like having their hearts broken into a million pieces. He said they felt shattered beyond anything that is imaginable and yet they manage to get through each day in the hope that they can keep Leah’s memory alive and help other families faced with the same situation.

It is for these reasons that Tom has chosen to undertake his mammoth ‘Footprints for Leah’ sponsored walk to raise funds for the Aoibheann’s Pink Tie project and Barretstown.
