Foróige Tallaght have officially launched their Fun Run today at Fit4Less gym. The National Youth Development Organisation has organised that four locals will be sponsored and trained by Fit4Less to get into shape in 6 weeks and run the 3 miles.
The group of willing participants come from all walks of life and looked a bit nervous at their induction in the Fit4Less gym, although brothers and trainers Jack and Greg Kenny, manager and proprietor of the gym, were on hand to ease their worries.
The sponsored participants include Eileen Meier from Tallaght Youth Service, Nicola Nagle and Gemma O’Reilly from Brookfield Youth & Community Centre and Adrian O’Sullivan, a Garda from Tallaght Station. There may be two more to join the team but this is still to be confirmed.
Youth officer at Foróige Tallaght, Laura Kelly commented on the launch.
“This is our first ever Foróige Fun Run in Tallaght so we hope to have a good turn out on the day! We were delighted that Fit4Less were willing to sponsor our local participants and that they were willing to sign up for the challenge and get involved in helping out Tallaght youths by raising awareness and funds for Foróige Tallaght.”
The four trainees will train with Fit4Less to improve their fitness, some aiming to run and some walk to Fun Run, which takes place in Tymon Park on Saturday March 12th at 11am.
If you want to join the brave souls, you can register online here or on the morning and there are two options; 3 miles for €10 or 5 miles for €15. Under 18s can only register on the day. All funds raised from registration goes back into the Tallaght-based Foróige to support youth services in the area. Foróige is based just across from The Square beside the Luas tracks and provides a number of activities and support to youths in the locality.
Foróige Tallaght work with 5,500 young people 10-18yrs and 450 Volunteers each year through volunteer-led Clubs and staff-led Youth Projects.
