The Swan Family Support Organisation will host a Health Information Day in Fettercairn this Friday.
Trainee psychotherapist with the Tallaght support service, Edel Corcoran, explained that the day will benefit the whole community by offering advice on nutrition, weight loss, health and fitness.
The event will take place at the Swan Family Support Centre in Kilcarrig on Friday, June 2nd between 10.30am and 12 noon.
Edel told InTallaght: “I came up with the idea as I am a sponsored fitness blogger for a local gym in Tallaght, Westpark Fitness. I have a keen interest in fitness, health, well being and nutrition. I started a psychotherapy course last September and I attended Swan for their holistic and well being services.”
After using the donation-based service herself Edel decided to offer her own expertise to the community by running the Health Information Day which has been backed by Swan Family Support Director, Eamonn White.
She said: “We hope this event will be a success, it is really a public consultation meeting. Information, samples, talks will all be given but I will be asking what is it the community want and what is it they need? We are testing the water at grassroots level as these are the service users that will be participating in these programs.”
“We, as an organisation, want to offer the best form of well being services as possible in every aspect that we can as time passes we must diversify to meet the needs of the community.”
Edel, who works as a Garda, is also a brand ambassador for Natashas Living Food, an Irish company that sells alternative vegan treats. She has a Masters in Community and Youth Studies, a Dip in Fitness Instruction, Dip in Nutrition and is currently studying for her Masters in Psychotherapy.
She said: “I will be giving my service as a participant, whether it be as a facilitator, event manager or psychotherapist or manager of a weight management clinic, all free of charge to Swan as I understand funding and how there is a need for those who consume from society to give back to when they can.”
The group is expecting a number of invited guests and local representatives on the day along with members of the community. For more information about the Health Day visit Swan Family Support on Facebook or attend the free event in Fettercairn on Friday from 10.30am.
