This is what she saw while on the 205 Bus Eireann service from CIT to Kent Station.
Along with the picture, Clara wrote on Bus Eireann’s Facebook page: “As an elderly lady was getting off the bus she almost tripped. Once she was off, the driver noticed that her lace was undone and he stalled the bus to tell her.”
Wait, it gets cuter.
Clara adds: “When she said that she knew, he realised that she wasn’t steady enough on her feet to bend down and tie it herself, so he got off the bus and tied it for her.
“He was so kind to her and went out of his way to look after a customer. I haven’t seen someone do something so kind in as long as I can remember and the lady was so appreciative she blew a kiss as the bus was pulling away.”
People worked out the driver in question was William Harris. Hundreds of people have since commented on the post, saying how lovely the story is and commenting on how much of a gentleman he is.
And it seems to have made his family understandably very proud.
Facebook user Martina’s Os wrote: “That’s my brother!! William Harris my mother brought us up to respect others around! So proud william!! Kind hearted man”
Meanwhile Grainne Kilcoyne recently commented: “I have to say that in general I’ve found Bus Eireann drivers very friendly and helpful. This however, is above & beyond and the driver is an example of how things should be in Ireland today. Well done!”
And of course it’s led to people writing how they wish their local bus drivers were as nice. It’s true – we could definitely all do with someone as kind as William Harris on our way to work.
