Saoirse Ronan set to present SNL in all Irish episode with U2

Saoirse Ronan will present the iconic US hit show Saturday Night Live on 2 December with music provided on the night by U2.

The announcement was made on the latest Saturday Night Live and will be the 23 year olds first time presenting the show.

The Irish acting legend, with close family ties to Tallaght, has been earning rave reviews for her performance in new released movie Lady Bird, with many early commentators tipping both her and the movie for Oscar glory.

 Saturday Night Live has run since 1975 with the format of the programme including a guest presenter every week week who performs sketches with comedians. Two musicians also appear weekly.

The show’s comedy sketches, which plays contemporary culture and politics, are performed by a large and varying cast.

Previous comedy legends to appear on the show include Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, Jane Curtin, John Belushi, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray and Mike Myers.
