Storm Barney leave thousands still without power

Storm Barney may well have come and gone but the destruction left behind is still causing many issues for people all over the country.

Thousands of homes today are still without power after the storm hit the country yesterday afternoon and throughout the night.

Gale force winds seen many trees and power lines brought down which led to some 45,000 ESB customers without power. The crew are working to restore power to homes and have already fixed the problem in some 35,000 homes today.

ESB has said it hopes to have most areas reconnected by this evening, but pointed out that with further bad weather expected today, it can offer no guarantees as high winds may cause additional faults.
