Trinity College introduce new compulsory sexual consent seminars for first years

With sexual consent being such a hot topic these days, Trinity College Dublin have introduced mandatory seminars for all first year students, following in the footsteps of Oxford and Cambridge universities in the UK.

From September new first year students will have a sexual consent seminar scheduled along with other introductory meetings, especially for those in student accommodation.

Shane Rice, the head of the JCR, the student committee that supports over 1,000 students at Trinity Hall said:

“We want to dispel the myths around sexual assault and start a conversation about what consent is.”

The University Times reported that the TCD Students’ Union held a meeting last night and a motion to assist with the organisation of the workshops received near unanimous approval.
