Microsoft has released the opening cinematic of Halo 5: Guardians giving another glimpse at the game’s premise.
Published via the official Xbox Twitter account, the video largely picks up where “Halo 4” left off, with destruction caused by Forerunner technology decimating several human colonies. The video also serves as an introduction to Fireteam Osiris, the new adversary to franchise protagonist Master Chief and his own fireteam.
Osiris is tasked with rescuing and escorting scientist Catherine Halsey, a key character in “Halo 4” and the franchise in general. Halsey oversaw the program that created SPARTAN soldiers such as Master Chief and designed artificial intelligences such as his assistant, Cortana.
According to a synopsis released by Microsoft, Osiris will be “tasked with hunting the Master Chief and solving a mystery that threatens the entire galaxy.” Osiris is led by Jameson Locke, a new playable protagonist portrayed by Mike Colter, and also features the return of “Halo 3: ODST” and “Halo: Reach” character Edward Buck, portrayed by Nathan Fillion.
Check out the opening below, we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Halo 5: Guardians is scheduled to be released exclusively on Xbox One on October 27.
