Tallaght Hospital will hold a public meeting on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in the Green Isle Hotel on the Naas Road at 7pm this Thursday 16th February. The event is organised by COPD Outreach at Tallaght Hospital, in conjunction with COPD Ireland.
The main guest speaker at the event is Professor Stephen Lane, Respiratory Physician attending Tallaght Hospital who will speak about his work on COPD. Professor Lanes and his team treat some of the 700 COPD patients at Tallaght Hospital.
Members of the public are invited to attend to learn more about COPD as well as to join the new local group which will be established at the meeting. This Local Support Group aims to support those living with COPD in the Tallaght and Clondalkin area.
Damien Peelo, CEO COPD Ireland said:
“A new COPD support group for the Tallaght and Clondalkin areas will be a fantastic addition to the growing COPD network in Ireland.
“Many people, when first diagnosed, think that they are on their own and are surprised to find that there are over 300,000 people living with COPD.
“The local COPD Support Groups are a great space to learn more about the illness, how to manage it better and get involved in advocacy work to improve services for people living with COPD.
“Meeting other people who know exactly what you are going through helps to cope with living with COPD. We are delighted to help get a local group up and running in South Dublin.”
Professor Stephen Lane said:
“This public meeting is a wonderful initiative to allow people to discuss some of the main issues surrounding COPD.
“It is a disease that affects many people and as a result it is important that people recognise the symptoms and know the best way to react in a situation.
“I look forward to speaking at the event and to seeing what the other contributors and the audience members have to say.”
